West undergoes successful operation on right wrist
Australian sets sights on Imola return following operation in Barcelona
Anthony West (EAB Antwest Racing) has been discharged on from the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona where he was operated on yesterday by Dr. Xavier Mir, just four days after suffering a crash in FIM Supersport World Championship free practice.
The Australian rider suffered a spectacular fall last Friday at Assen on Friday of the MOTUL Dutch Round, and suffered a fracture in his right wrist which prevented him from continuing to race in the fourth round of the season. After travelling to Barcelona, he underwent a three-dimensional CT scan on Monday which made the extent of his injury clear. He then went through to the operating room to fix the intra-articular fracture displaced from the right distal radius.
Using a 'minimally invasive' technique, as explained by Dr. Xavier Mir, he underwent an internal operation with two compression screws, and then remained under observation for 24 hours. Now the Australian rider must remain inactive for a week before beginning his recovery plan with his wrist, but everything suggests that he will be ready to race in the next round, from 11th – 13th May at the Imola circuit.
"The surgery was successful and I will be fit and ready to race the next Round in Italy" the rider explained on Instagram account.
"I’m leaving the hospital in Barcelona and Dr. Mir, who has a reputation for treating MotoGP™ and WorldSBK riders, has done a great job of fixing two new screws. I can already move my fingers without pain, and I'm confident I'll be ready to race again.”
